Black Luminaries
2021
I collaborated with the JXN project to produce 11 portraits as part of a year-long public history project in Richmond’s historic Jackson Ward neighborhood. The portraits were converted into banners installed on the street around Jackson Ward as 15 streets, alleyways and public spaces were dedicated to Jackson Ward luminaries of the 19th, 20th and 21st century.
This project - Unveiling the Vanguard - won a Golden Hammer for Best Placemaking Project from the Historic Richmond Foundation in 2021.
2015
I was commissioned to expand the series by the Black History Museum of Virginia, adding portraits of Richard F. Tancil and William Washington Browne.
2014
I began this series with 3 prints created to support reclamation efforts at East End Cemetery in Richmond Virginia. These portraits of Maggie Lena Walker, John Mitchell Jr. and Rosa Dixon Bowser were sold with all proceeds donated to Friends of East End Cemetery.
