Print Description: A portrait of A.D. Price (1860-1921), born into slavery, Alfred D. Price gained his freedom, established a blacksmith’s shop, and later a thriving funeral home, and became one of the leading businessmen of Jackson Ward’s boom years.

About the Series: One print in a series of 11 prints used by the JXN project as part of “Unveiling the Vanguard” - a rededication of streets and public locations to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Jackson Ward. Prints were translated into large-scale banners and installed on the street. This project won a 2021 Golden Hammer Award for Best Placemaking Project from the Historic Richmond Foundation. Complete portfolios are held in the collections of the The Virginia Museum of History and Culture, The Valentine Museum, The Library of Virginia and VCU Special Collections.
